Ruby is a interpreted language.
It was created by Matzumoto, a Japanese.
It is focused on simplicity and productivity. It has an elegant syntax that is natural to read and easy to write.
After that, David Heinemeier Hansson from 37 Signals created the Ruby on Rails framework. It is a web framework that follows the idea of the language: simplicity and productivity. It has some concepts: DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself), Convention over configuration ans KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid!)
Many Java programmers migrated from Java to Rails.
