    keyboard with mechanical switches

Hiho i just got my qpad mk -85 and it uses cherry red switches, do anyone else run a mechanical keyboard. If so witch switches are you using ? And why?

What I have heard the blue switches should be best for typing, but are alot lauder than red or black. But red and black switches are preferred to use when gaming.

I have been thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard.
Tested a few of them in stores and I really do like the click feedback with blue switches but I think I prefer red switches because of the smooth feeling and low force needed to push down.
But haven't found any keyboard that I really like.

I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard (red, black or blue switches) with white or blue backlight (other colors may work), all standard buttons even the left win key but no other extra keys for macros and so.
And I don't need a USB hub or audio ports in it.

If any of you know any that fits the description, please tell me.

Klusbert, you must come back with feedback on your keyboard later on.
Want to know what you think about it.

It's great that you can choose switch type to use on their page because the standard MK80 uses blue switches.
They should make a MK50 with backlight, that would be the perfect keyboard for me.

But whatever I will probably get a MK80 with red switches.

@Wesker: I do not think that qpad is that big outside Europe, but I know that they are well known for theirs mouse pads.

@Stuji: Is blue switches lauder?, I think this is really laud :P Because this is the first mechanical keyboard I ever tested, I know I will love it eventually. One bad thing I can say about it right now is that it is kinda small. I love big keyboards, this feels a bit smaller than standard keyboard layout. The wrist pad is not adjustable that is also a big minus, but typing on it is really lovely.

I think my skype friends will hate me tho :P

But mk-80 looks better, but mk-85 is the first keyboard in the world with full n-key rollover with usb. mk-80 need ps2 to have full n-key.

Yes the blue switches are louder with a more clicky noise, check out the youtube link Wesker posted.
I think it sounds great but I don't know if it's something you would like to hear on a daily basis.

I did however find this site called Das Keyboard that sells mechanical keyboards and also reusable earplugs.
"Multi-use, comfortable earplugs for co-workers or significant others of Das Keyboard users."

Too bad it won't do any good for your skype friends.

It's not really about the noise, but the reason mech keyboards are better is that they have a larger area which will count as a keypress, e.g you only have to press the key 50% down, and it is "pressed", whereas conventional modern keyboards you gotta press it 95% + of the way down, to get the same effect. It means when you're typing code if you sometimes miss a key, it will not happen as much using a mech keyboard. The noise is directly related to the ease of pressing. E.g if a keyboard is louder then it is easier to press, primarily because the key will travel faster towards the switch, meaning when it impacts it makes a louder noise.

Problem is they can cost upwards of £100 a lot of the time. E.g a Razer keyboard is what.... £90? And that's relatively bottom end, for mech keyboards. A good Cherry branded keyboard will cost you easily in excess of £500, but if you're a professional programmer and you do it all day every day, it could potentially prove to be worthwhile.
